BAUXITE

Aluminum production begins with the extraction of bauxite and clay with high concentrations of aluminum. It is extracted from a few meters below the ground. The bauxite is transported and the clay is flushed out by passing it through a mill.

ALUMINA

The alumina or alumina oxide is extracted from the bauxite through a refining process.

REFINING PROCESS

The alumina is separated from the bauxite using a hot caustic sodium and lime solution. The mixture is heated and filtered and the remaining alumina is dried into a white powder.

ALUMINA PRODUCTION

PROCESS OF REFINING ALUMINA INTO ALUMINUM

The alumina is taken to the metal plant. There it is transformed into aluminum. It requires 3 materials to create aluminum: aluminum oxide, electricity and carbon. The electricity runs through a negative and positive cathode both made of carbon. The anode reacts with the oxygen in the alumina and forms CO2. The result is liquid aluminum that can now be exploited from cells.

PRIMARY ALUMINUM TO INGOTS

The liquid aluminum is poured into different types of containers thus creating blocks, and then melted to generate the required alloys. These types of primary aluminum have different market names. The most common name is ingot.

MELTING

Primary aluminum is acquired by Cuprum in ingots then melted with other metals like silicon and magnesium to create alloys in accordance to the customer’s needs.

TRANSFORMATION

The molten aluminum is poured into furnaces to form bars known as “billets” which will be used in the extrusion process.

EXTRUSION

The extrusion technique has unlimited designs and offers endless numbers of applications. Alloy bars are used in the extrusion process and are heated to a temperature that turns them into their plastic form cut into small ingots, which then will be extruded through tooling that has the shape of the final product to be delivered to the customer. The remaining material is sent to the melting area for recycling.

MANUFACTURED AND FINISHED

To give added value to our profile we have manufacturing processes for increased use and satisfaction of our customer among which are: wire drawing, cut to size, CNC machining, bending, threading, counter sinking and assembly.
Cuprum offers different types of finishes: painted (consists of covering the profiles by means of electrostatic painting, either dry or liquid), anodized (consists of covering the profile with a layer of protection by adding a layer of aluminum oxide, the material can be given color through a process of electro coloring) and sublimate (consists of creating a wood type finish on the profile in question).

RETAIL / DISTRIBUTION

Cuprum has a nationwide distribution chain, with its own and sublet delivery equipment, in addition, it has a strong logistics team to get anywhere for products or assemblies.

A process that consists of injecting aluminum into permanent molds (or die). The mold has a chamber resembling the required finished piece. Since the piece will contract, the molds may or may not have cores or tappets to separate the mold and release the final aluminum piece. We have equipment with a wide variety of capabilities to ensure fulfilling the dimensions and weight requirements of any pieces.

Cuprum is considered a sustainable company because 100% of its scrap is recycled within their processes and we contribute by obtaining aluminum products to mix.
